Kendall Center is a beautiful entryway into Cambridge with its shops and eccentric buildings, but in the summer it really comes alive. Every Thursday starting at 5:00pm you can listen to students perform a mix of jazz standards or original pieces. Every week is someone new and it’s always a good time. Whether you’re coming from work or just going to get dinner, you should stop by and listen to some good music in a fun area in Cambridge.

Free Outdoor Movies

It’s like a drive in without the car! There are plenty of different areas in and around Boston to go watch a movie outside and enjoy the summer night with some friends. Coolidge on the Greenway, Sunset Cinema at the Museum of Fine Arts, and Movies in the Park at Assembly Row are all amazing options. Since there are so many to choose from, you also have plenty of movie watching options. From Dumbo to Jaws you’ll be able to find a movie for everyone.

Harvard Square Chocolate Tour

How can anyone pass up chocolate? Off the Bean Food Tours invites you to join them to historical Harvard Square where they’ll bring you on a tour to learn fun facts about chocolate and sample some of the best and most interesting types around. The tour is actually year round so if you can’t make in during the summer there’s still hope to catch it in the colder months! It lasts 90 minutes and features four to six stops with less than a mile of actual walking. The tours are on Fridays at 7:00pm and Saturdays at 2:00pm and 5:00pm.

Bookworms will love these next two!

Shakespeare in the Commons

Shakespeare in the Commons has been an event going on for over 24 seasons. It was modeled after “Shakespeare in the Park” which takes place in Central Park as well as many other Shakespeare events throughout the country. The free show has decided to do the mystical dramedy Cymbeline. It follows the fates of King Cymbeline and the rest of his family as they deal with deception, separation, and intrigue. Imogen, a favorite amongst shakespeare enthusiasts struggles with mistaken identities and twists and turns on her quest to find love.

Death at Dueling Club: A Harry Potter Murder Mystery Dinner

This is a must do for Harry Potter fans everywhere. Trident Bookseller and Cafe have created their own murder mystery novel with a Harry Potter themed twist. Colin Creevey, a young Gryffindor, was mysteriously killed during an innocent meeting of the dueling club. It’s up to you and your friends to solve the case. The hour long game ends with a Hogwarts themed dinner and costumes, though not required, are highly encouraged! It’s a one time only event on August 15th so grab a ticket before they’re all gone.

The Boston Calling Block Party

Last but not least, Boston Calling Block Party! Free concerts on the Greenway every Thursday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The Boston Calling Block Party has live bands, lawn games, and beer and drinks for everyone. The event is located right outside of South Station and continues up until the end of August.
