As we continue to emphasize the fact that video marketing is the current megatrend in the digital marketing world, it’s important to understand that live streaming is the kernel of this trend. Most social media channels, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, now have a live streaming feature, which allows companies to engage with customers more in a timely basis. However, even though live streaming indeed helps boost engagement with customers, all companies should be aware of the fact that live streaming means there’s no going back once you click the “on” button.

Be extra careful when live streaming, if you don’t pay attention to the detail you might get a counter-effect and lose customers. 1. Not having a plan

Live streaming may sounds like an event that happens on a whim, but just like every marketing campaign, you need a plan for it.

What are you looking to achieve with this event?

When are you doing the live streaming and how long will it be?

What content are you going to present during the live streaming?

All these questions should be answered and clearly defined in the plan. Also, just like you want to post content on social media channel during the prime time that you customers are most activate online, you should research and analyze data to determine what’s the best time to live stream.

Once you develop a comprehensive plan, you are a step closer to success.

2.Not testing the equipment beforehand

Don’t let the efforts you put in to developing the plan to go in vain by forgetting to test the equipment you are going to use for the live streaming. When focusing on capturing a perfect video, you should never neglect the importance of audio. Terrible audio is distracting and could ruin everything, or worse, it could not work at all. Thus, before you actually launch the event, make sure all the equipment works perfectly. Also, if you are going to live streaming at different locations, don’t forget to test everything at the specific location and see how they work. An important part of live streaming is the connection. Make sure that your Wi-Fi signal is strong enough to handle the event. Just keep in mind the golden rule of live streaming – always test your equipment.

3. Being late

No matter if it’s a one-time event or not, if you have set a specific time to go on live, this is not one of those times where it is okay to be fashionably late.

Being late to the event will not only affect the event’s success, but it will also jeopardize your company’s image. It’s a matter of trust. Keep in mind that most of the time, people tend to wait online 5 to 10 minutes earlier before the event actually starts. You don’t want to keep your audience waiting!

A small tip to capture and further engage with your audience is to countdown to the event. You can start counting down by days, and on the event day, start counting down by the hour, minute, and second. Let your audience know there’s an event that is going to start soon!

4. Not interacting

One of the main purposes of live streaming is to interact with your customers. So, if you don’t interact with them, what’s the point of doing this?

Despite the fact that it’s convenient to connect with customers, thanks to the Internet, there are still some people who prefer talking to actual person, instead of typing on their keyboard and clicking their mouse to make a purchase or complain the customer service.
That’s why live streaming is a wonderful tool, it allows you to closer the gap between you and your customers. Let them take a peek at what you’re doing; perhaps you’re preparing for an event or discussing with your team about a new product. Invite your customers to provide ideas and opinions about your products or events, let them know you value their contribution. If they have something to complain, it’s okay, just respond to them patiently. If you don’t have time to respond to every comment, have someone take notes with contact information so you can reach out to them afterwards

A friendly reminder: though we encourage you to engage with your customers during live streaming, don’t forget you’re not doing it just for engagement. Keep your goal in mind and make sure you get your message across.

5. No backup

If you think turning off the live streaming means the end, we’re certain that you’re wrong. The end of live stream just means you are beginning another journey. What you need to do is backup the live stream video and convert it into Video on Demand (VoD), which can be accessed and viewed by anyone at anytime. Some people may have missed your previous live stream events but if they like the topic of the video, they’re going to look out for future events. This is a great way to build viewership!

Live streaming is a great tool for you to promote your products and services, as well as to engage with customers. It’s not difficult to get the hang of live streaming, but you should be extra careful since you cannot undo anything once you start doing it.
